Back in the day, this was the kind of thing a young man did to try to win a young lady’s heart: over a dozen sonnets I wrote and then set out, each with a specifically meaningful paper treatment. This was all done by hand except for a few cut from a copy of Oak Leaves 1979, our high school literary annual; and one I phototypeset (this was all pre-personal computers!). I don’t think I ever completed the set and there might even be one or two missing. They’re rather full of teenage ardor and angst, which is all you otherwise need to know about them! (You can read two of them here.) It hung in a place of honor in Lisa’s freshman dorm room.
